On his birthday, Brian George's life takes a tragic turn when his wife Quinn Joyce and their daughter Nancy are in a car crash with his first love, Yvette Jane. In the critical moments post-crash, Brian chooses to tend to Yvette and her son instead of answering Quinn's desperate calls for help. This choice costs Nancy her life. Consumed by sorrow, Quinn is dismissed by Brian as being overly dramatic; he even considers divorce. When Yvettefinds out about Nancy's death, she manipulates the situation to push the couple apart, only to be taken into custody by the police. Brian realizes the irreversible loss too late, confronted with guilt and regret at the hospital.
