John West, Pam Murphy's personal driver at the Murph Group, saves her life and later becomes intimately involved with her in the car, leading to his promotion as her secretary. He gets entangled in a business dispute between the company and the Martin Group, uncovers a hidden listening device and tracks down a mole, and steadfastly protects Pam despite facing doubts and tests. After being humiliated and abandoned by his girlfriend Sally Abel over his inability to provide a bride price, Pam stands up for him.
